Join the AppLift Team: How to Ace the First Interview

Congratulations! From thousands of resumes, you were selected for a first interview with our team of recruiters. After a deep evaluation of your CV and skills, we are eager to finally meet you. As a recruiter, we undertake many interviews, but we know that being invited for the first “get to know” interview can be very stressful for the candidates. For that reason, we decided to give you some hints on how to rock your first interview! We hope that this blog post will help you prepare for our call and make it easier for you to say exactly what you want to say.

At AppLift, we focus our interviews on three big dimensions: functional fit, performance and potential. The first one represents the match between your work experience and what we are looking for. The second represents how easily you will catch up things and reach the goals we have for you. Finally, the last one is focused on the your capacity to grow within the organization.

As you see from our dimensions, we will focus not only on your career path, but also on the role you can play at AppLift in the future. Our people make up our success and we are always looking for the best talents in the market who can work together with other brilliant minds in the company. Which is why, a simple Google search about the most common interview questions will not be enough to stand out. We leave you with some advice.

1. Research, research, research: Get to know the company well before you set off for the first interview call. It is expected of candidates that they already know a few things about our company (e.g., the work we do, and our product). Use our website and blog for your research and prepare some questions if you have them! Not sure about our company culture? Have a look at our social media channels and get a feeling of what it is like to work for us.

2. Scrutinise the job description: Between skills and abilities, you should also be prepared for questions about the job you are applying for. Be ready to analyze your current skills along with the recruiter and defend your qualifications, potential and fit for the role.

3. Know your own CV: Take a deeper look at your resume and be able to articulate your experiences with confidence and clarity. The recruiter might ask you questions about previous experiences, examples of projects developed and competences acquired. Be clear with your answers and avoid misunderstandings.

4. Prepare your questions: At the end of the interview, the recruiter will give you an opportunity to ask any questions you may have. This is an important moment to clarify your doubts, to understand the process and prepare yourself for the next steps. A candidate who asks relevant questions shows us that he/she is truly interested. Moreover, it enables the recruiter to share more insights into your position that will help you in the future

5. It’s okay to not know everything: If you are not sure about a question or you don’t know how to answer it, just be honest with the recruiter. They will give you enough time to interpret the question and gather your thoughts. If for any reason it’s out of your knowledge just tell us. Don’t forget that we are evaluating not only your current skills but also your potential for growth.

6. Don’t be late: Unexpected events happen to everyone (e.g., bus being late, Skype not working) but let’s be honest, they never create a good impression unless they are well justified! For that reason, give yourself some time before the interview for preparation. If you will be late anyway, please drop as an email as soon as you can.

7. Be yourself: Last but not least, be yourself! We are looking forward to understanding your personality, how you solve problems and how you see yourself inside of an organization.
